BRICS education ministers back ethical AI and launch the Technical Cooperation Alliance

The meeting of BRICS education ministers held under Brazil's 2025 chairmanship ended with the adoption of a joint declaration. The ministers committed themselves to the ethical and inclusive use of artificial intelligence in education, to strengthening vocational and technical training and to reforming frameworks for academic assessment. Brazil's BRICS Sherpa, Ambassador Mauricio Lyrio, and Russia's Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education, Konstantin Mogilevsky, took part in the discussion.

The meeting formally launched the BRICS Technical Cooperation Alliance, intended to align education with labour-market needs and to widen access to training for women, rural residents, persons with disabilities and migrants. Another member country joined the BRICS Network University, extending the exchange of students and lecturers. India and Brazil presented national initiatives on inclusive learning, vocational skills and innovation in higher education.

The declaration's emphasis on assessment frameworks and the recognition of qualifications is directly relevant to the Alliance's work: mutual recognition of academic degrees and accreditation of educational programmes is among the areas of cooperation set out in its Regulations.
