About

Alliance for the Development and Preservation of the Heritage of Science, Culture and Education of the BRICS Countries (ANKO BRICS)

The emergence of a new multipolar world as the basis for peaceful coexistence and sustainable socio-economic development of the countries and peoples concerned is possible only if the core ideas of this new development are actively supported.

Building cooperation between the academies and universities of the BRICS countries follows the central idea of BRICS as an informal interstate association: international self-organization at every level and in every relevant field. Cooperation within BRICS does not replace bilateral ties; it builds on those that already exist.

The Alliance for the Development and Preservation of the Heritage of Science, Culture and Education of the BRICS Countries (ANKO BRICS, hereinafter the Alliance) is an association without legal personality made up of scientific, educational, civil-society and cultural organizations of the BRICS countries and other partner countries. It was established under an agreement between its founding organizations (Agreement No. 1). The Alliance’s activities are governed by the Regulations of the Alliance; its highest body is the Council, composed of the heads of civil-society organizations of the BRICS countries and other partner countries.

In an era of constantly renewed technology and accelerating innovation, science and education have become a key component of socio-economic policy in the BRICS countries and a condition for competing successfully in domestic and global markets. At the same time, the foundation of science and education is world culture, with due regard for the culture of each country and each people.

The Alliance’s mission is to raise the standard of living of peoples and to support the sustainable development of the BRICS countries and other partner countries through science, education and culture, while preserving the heritage of our ancestors in these fields. At the international level, the Alliance creates favourable conditions for its members to support and promote programmes and projects in science, professional education, and the preservation of cultural values and historical heritage.

The Alliance’s work is directed at implementing its members’ programmes and projects; supporting and promoting promising developments, innovative approaches and projects in research, research-methodological, educational and applied-research activities; and fostering interaction between non-governmental and state systems in science and education, including at the international level, on the basis of the cultural heritage, customs and traditions of countries and peoples.
